I always thought the darkness was an emulation issue, since it looks better in rereleases such as Namco Museum Megamix and Pac-Man Museum+

To see a real "palette wrecked by GBA," see this site's many SMA3 sprites vs the SMW2 sprites we don't have. Some shades are indistinguishable, and others have been combined!

I prefer the GBA palette too in this case.
@Snessy Try asking the people who made Street Smart, that was another arcade game that suffered from being too dark.
@Doc The early GBAs didn't have a light so for some games, they were brighten up. Some wrecked the palette (e.g. Donkey Kong Country), some were less noticeable while this was actually a good thing.

Like, who thought making the arcade version so dark was a good idea??

@Dolphman Nope. For once, it appears the GBA version has better colors. Truly surprised here...
(course, backlights have everything to do with that, I suppose...)

Is it wrong that I prefer the GBA palette over the Arcade one?

They're only in the High Score screen in the North American version of the game
A lot of graphics are exclusive to the North American version

Wait since when did Pac-Man have those Pac-Land running sprites? I've never seen those in-game.
