It takes a little while to get used to the new layout, but i love the new icons and the "recently submitted sheets" system. Awesome update so far! :D |

While I like the new style, I understand and somewhat share Dunkelschwamm's biggest concern about the main content width of the new design. But if you want to "fix" something about that, you could just add some media queries to your new CSS layout that stretch the content area if the monitor is wide enough. Shouldn't be too hard to include and it would probably please some of the louder voices complaining here =) |

I've given this a couple days to mull over and give a chance. I'm proud of you guys for putting in so much work to keep the site fresh and modern, but this new layout is killin' me Smalls. I have to agree with the concerns that the narrow space in the middle being used to accommodate these large icons is really unituitive. Where I could once survey many icons at once to find what I'm looking for, I now have to pull icons onscreen from above and below to search around . I miss what I'm searching for much, much more often as it goes flying past while I'm trying to scroll through the content more quickly. This is much more work extensive and frankly isn't easy on the eyes. My monitor is pretty massive and it doesn't make much sense to me that only four icons can fit in a row. Scrolling through larger games like Maplestory or Marvel: Avengers Alliance is a nightmare. I think I get that you think that this is where the market is headed, but this is a huge misinterpretation of the values that go into these kinds of designs. I never had many problems with the stretching layout on varying screen sizes in a way that legitimizes this new layout design. It actually probably could have been easily fixed with a hard limit attached to the strech to keep it from going beneith a pleasing level. None of this has made the site easier to look at, easier to navigate, or streamlined in a better direction. I think that this redesign either needs some massive reworking or needs to be cut loose. Not to be repetitive, but this update is frankly off-putting to me as somebody who has frequented this site for years. On a lighter note, I haven't been suffering any glitches. So good on you for making something so stable on release. Also, very cool to see some new Arcanum and X-Com sheets coming in. |

Jul 6, 2014, 11:53 AM | Superjustinbros | Sheet: Mark and Bert |
I noticed there's a sprite missing from this sheet that appears when Mark/Bert hit their head on a solid surface. The level graphics could be made into a separate "Round 1 Tileset" sheet, with Mark and Bert's sprites moved to "Mark and Bert". |

Now that the proto is dumped, I suppose the Beta Plant boss (as well as the other beta-only bosses) could now be accurately ripped instead of being a custom. |

Refresh the page and it'll be fixed - it's because somebody has replaced it and your browser has cached the old icon. |

So, not to be rude or anything, but why are there icons in icons for icons (i.e. X-Force Wolverine from Avengers Alliance)? It looks quite odd. |

I don't know if anyone else is having this problem, but the new layout is completely broken on Firefox 30.0. It's working fine in Chrome though.... |

I'd just like to add to the path issue a bit. While it's not as direct as everything being in a single line, all of the information that was previously there is still all at the top of the page. Console, letter, game, section, and sheet name are all immediately visible on page load, as seen below. It will just take a tiny bit of getting used to until you can spot them without thinking about it. |
Jul 6, 2014, 2:42 AM | Dazz | Update: Welcome to a Brand New Spriter's Resource! |
Moving the box below would just leave an empty space, and doesn't consider the length of some items on the site. For example, the game Adventure Time: Explore The Dungeon Because I Don't Know would break the boundary box it would be put in. Our solution is to cut off the letters that currently don't fit, giving a summary of the title. When all these items are in a single line, it would likely just cut off the entire sheet name. I understand your concerns for scrolling, but these days it's easier to scroll content with a mouse, trackpad, or touch screen than it is to search around a large space for the icon you're interested in. When all content is visible within your immediate peripheral, and you simply scroll the content in front of your eyes, you're less likely to miss what you're looking for. |

I see, I don't really understand how this improves readability though. Having a max 4 icons per line makes the pages all the longer to scroll, which is not very handy. As for the sheets pages, couldn't is be solved by simply moving the big infobox all the way below the sheet? When I open a sheet on my screen I see 20% sheet and 80% something else, due to this big box mainly, so I have to scroll anyway. Putting the path on top and the box below would save a lot of searching/scrolling I think. Good work on all these modifications though :), I'm looking forward to all the new icons. |

Ian, would it be possible for you to stop making requests like this in the sprite comments? If you really want Quirby64 to rip more of these, how about you PM him about it instead? |
Jul 6, 2014, 12:30 AM | Dazz | Update: Welcome to a Brand New Spriter's Resource! |
I'll address your issues: 1) We actually increased the space available for content. Before, where we were unaware of the width of the user's monitor, we had to accommodate to a small resolution and blindly guess how content might appear. As such we couldn't make things like sheets a larger width, as they wouldn't display properly for a lot of people with the right column being there. Removing that column gave us extra space we can utilize. The change to a fixed width is not only to improve readability on larger monitors (Try viewing the flexible width on a huge monitor, and you'll see that everything in a massive line is a real pain to read) but also to follow the trend in the market, and make the site more comfortable for new viewers who are used to a fixed width layout. 2) I can understand your issue here, but we simply couldn't see any decent way of including this information without knocking the sheet out of view from the first page load. We believe that with the information presented on the left, and in the information box, it is only a matter of getting used to the new design. As I said, I appreciate your issues with the layout, but simply give it a chance. We've been running it in the background for some time, and while it was a little odd at first, we've grown to find that it is much more intuitive, and gives a greater deal of ease when navigating. |
Jul 5, 2014, 11:27 PM | Kroki | Update: Welcome to a Brand New Spriter's Resource! |
I have two huge problems with this new design: 1) the site is now very small, there is a lot of wasted space on the sides, this is a problem since there is a large number of (now big) icons to display, and many sheets are larger than the site. 2) The path to a sheet is not so clear anymore, it is very handy to see at the top of the page the path: Console / Letter / Game / Sheet, now you have to search these information on various sides of the page. I hope you will take this in consideration, it really affects the browsing comfort. :) |

Ian, ShadeDBZ makes a good point. The reason that I started out ripping sprites was because I had an interest in the Pokemon series (PMD). I had no prior knowledge of how to rip sprites, let alone about emulators and such. I literally started out with searching "how to rip sprites from DS games" on Google and taught myself. Think about how you learned how to rip from Flash Games. If you have the passion towards these games, I see no reason not to search for a ripping tutorial and giving it a go. It is not difficult. It IS fun. The great thing about taking the time to learn how to rip, is it allows you to take action. If you find a game that you enjoy that you can't find the sprites for online, then you can try to get the sprites yourself. |
Jul 4, 2014, 8:05 PM | Shade | Update: Still Hard At Work! |
Because, obviously, we were all born with the knowledge to rip from "console-based" games. We didn't have to learn how to do it or anything. Also, being a "spriter" has nothing to do with whether or not you can rip/extract sprites from a particular game, you don't seem to be using the term correctly. And with an attitude like that, expect many more neg-reps. |
Jul 4, 2014, 6:01 PM | LooneyTunerIan | Update: Still Hard At Work! |
@ShadeDBZ Just because I can only rip from Flash Games and Cartoons with a decomplier, doesn't mean I can rip from console-based video games. I'm not a spriter if I can only rip from Flash-based games. Call me a Flasher. @Dazz And just because I make Looney Tunes-related requests and that everybody neg-reps me, I'd much rather have negative reputation points rather than have any at all. |

I didn't make a hundred requests. The Looney Tunes Gang only had about a few Consoled Video Games. But now that I've got a Bad Reputation (-2), I can fully admit that they may never be accepted. In fact, I may never see another Looney Tunes-related Sprite Addition Update again. |
