@Techokami You mean the white dot? OK, yeah I see that.

@Doc von Schmeltwick No these are based on Sonic 2 (16-bit), take a very good look at the walking animation and the shading of his spines.

@Asuhara iirc only the eyes and colors are different between 16-bit Sonic 1 and 2. Master System Sonic 1 and 2 share sprites, withe the Game Gear shrinking the former.

You mean it only due to his eyes? Cuz' the rest seems mostly based on S2.

There's also the fact that these are based off the 16-bit Sonic 1 sprites and the final ones are based more off the slightly-different 16-bit Sonic 2 sprites.

Despite how much I prefer the beta sprites, I do understand the reasoning behind the change; to differ-ate it from the console titles and give it a cuter appearance.

A pity that only the Game Gear version of that prototype got released and no the Master System one (or its equivalent from the same time).

Wow, these prototype sprites looks SO much better than the final version!

I wonder which prototypes from Sonic games are left to discover

Uh... the signpost has the wrong color, same to Tails' tails on some sprites in his sheet.

UPDATE: Now it's fixed.

@JacobLeBeauREAL
Why do you want him to spoil Sonic Month like that? November 9th isn't that far away. Patience please.

@Techokami do you know what the next protoype is?

It also helps that I'm very close friends with drx, so I had access to the ROM before it was publically posted specifically to get these sheets up ASAP, as well as help with research, like finding the minecart sprites. That's why I gave him special thanks!

@JacobLeBeauREAL Nah, it's just an expected thing to happen.
Also Molly, some users have an instant approval option on their account if they're a trusted submitter. That's probably why these got uploaded so quickly.

@shadowman44 is that a bad thing?

Also I like these sprites.

Of course it was Techokami who ripped these.

Really wish I could have known beforehand that these were ripped and in the queue by somebody else before I wasted a half-hour trying to rip them myself

It's not actually even "Sonic 2" sprites, it's the same style the Master System Sonic 1 used. The GG one shrunk them down.

God damn it you're quick, should've known you were ripping these too before your comment went up about an hour after I finished and submitted mine.
That aside, why do they even have sprites for the minecart if the ones in the prototype are broken anyway?

It's funny that after all these years, it appears that Sonic 2 LD was beaten to the punch with these Sonic 2 sprites - they even made the angle and Rocket Sneaker sprites in the same style!
