@CamTGMYT It really depends on the game. Some sheets are larger because they go into more detail. Some detail the animations, palettes and extra info while others just for the basic sprites. In a few cases, they aren't optimised and can be a bit small in filesize but people usually do. All I can say, glad PNG exists as a format otherwise you'll dread to think how big a sheet can be if it was in BMP.

From a technical point of view, sometimes the sprite sheets has to be larger than in the ROM itself usually for older games. In many cases, sprites are made up in tiles where they can get duplicated or made in pieces and the game coding sorts it out. Palettes are usually stored elsewhere. Compression is also a factor where the game would have to decompress just so it can get shown in game. Java mobile games sometimes crammed the sprites into what little space is on a sheet making it nonsensical, again the coding sorts it out. All of that just to save space and back then, it was precious. (Some companies though like Capcom often wasted storage space)

If you think this sheet's big, try the Metal Slug rips. LOADS of animations to boot as well. Anyone who rips from that series or from fighting games has my respect (in most cases).

To be fair it's probably just large to people unexperienced in this kind of thing. Like me for example, I underestimated sprite sheets heavily in size and am only recently learning that they are astronomical. Not knowing would make smthn like this seem big. Hell, it still looks large to me, just understandably so

@FridayFunkGaming291: It's really not? I'd hardly call a thousand-by-two-thousand pixels in dimensions that's only a couple hundred kilobytes "big" by any means when we have submissions on the site that are like six thousand pixels in height and a few megabytes apiece.

How do I get the pages separately? I don't want to be cutting them 1x1!

Hey, is there a way for me to get a Zip file of all the isolated sprites instead of having them all in one png? thanks.

A helpful alternative would be to have the sprite sheet how it is here in one image, But with the sprites evenly spaced out, like a grid, with a transparent background

@Random Talking Bush: The update that Supersonic got his own sheet was way back in 2018, I tracked the Way Back Machine using this URL and found this, the old sprite sheet.

Edit; I forgot it was HTTP when I loaded it it was blank:

One of Sonic's "turntable" frames looks like his version of Crash's "WOAH surprise"

These sprites when put together frame by frame into one animated sprite looks so smooth. I was gonna rip them but since I didn't have an account yet, I decided to rip them for me until this sprite sheet popped up. Thanks :)

This sprite sheet highlights the problem I have with normal Sonic's palette. It's too bright imo, it strains my eyes. I wish that they used a slightly darker blue

Does anyone know where the "ride" sprites are? I might be blind but I can't find them...

@Samey the Hedgewhatever: It may seem that way due to Super Sonic's sprites being given their own sheet when it was updated earlier.

@EXEcutor-The-Bat: Except Triangly didn't work on this sheet in particular (just ones for the older Sonic games). I was the one that re-arranged this sheet (and Super Sonic) to match the ones I personally ripped, for consistency's sake.
