Storytime with PGE.

Color Dreams obtained the Hellraiser franchise license for use in an NES game, but it was canceled due to hardware limitations.

Sometime in 1993 (long after NES Hellraiser was dead), Color Dreams licensed the Wolfenstein 3D engine from id Software at a cut-rate price (due to John Carmack seeing it as having outlived its purpose) for use in a different Hellraiser game.

At this point, most of Color Dreams' product development had moved Wisdom Tree to make bible-themed games for sale in Christian bookstores (since Nintendo couldn't threaten to block sales), so the Hellraiser IP was dropped in favor of Noah's Ark.

In other words:
* Hellraiser on NES was a different project
* Hellraiser on NES never used the Wolf3D engine
* id Software never gave WT the Wolf3D engine in response to Nintendo's censorship

It's not common for me to see SNES bootlegs. NES bootlegs on other hand are everywhere!

This game is unlicensed but not bootleg, since Nintendo's "licenses" don't actually have any legal weight. The super nes version was sold legally, Nintendo just resented that it was, and probably in particular that it would actually run on the system, however awkward the required setup was. Wisdom Tree legitimately licensed the Wolfenstein 3d engine from id Software and owns the in-game content. I would distinguish that from the likes of "Kart Fighter" which uses intellectual properties the developer has no rights to and numerous multi-cartridge and arcade bootlegs that are simply hacked and altered versions of existing games.
