Wow! This version of Knux looks way better than the sprites from the final version of S3. I hope someone can make an expanded version of this sheet, and maybe even a ROMhack of Sonic 3 & Knuckles that inserts this version of Knuckles into the final version of the game.

I think that's a fist as a show of power, or if it is a "come here" gesture, more of a taunt, like "You want it? Come and get it."

I think this is a better look for Knuckles. He's more detailed and looks far more menacing. I don't get why he makes a gesture to Sonic to come closer before running, but whatever I guess.

Yeah, sorry for the palette being off in the initial sheet. I used a raw palette exported from Gens while ripping the sprites, which basically explains why the colors were brighter than usual.

I've re-ripped this sheet as the original palette was so non-standard, I couldn't manually adjust the color to the correct scheme.

The tables that I usually place on sheets are omitted because there's no need to outweigh the content with them. Look on the background sheets on the Nov. 3 Sonic 3 page for the values breakdown.

I noticed during the livestream that if you move Sonic far enough past Knuckles during the 'cutscene', then Rad Red's palette changes to the blue variant, which is also seen in the final by disabling layers and going frame by frame.

But this version of Knuckles much better matches the later Chaotix and Mania styles, and he feels a lot more menacing than his eventual trickster status in 3K. It'd have been nice to see more of him in this style.

He. Is. BEAUTIFUL!
The amount of detail in these sprites blows the final version out of the water!! The way the hair is blown in the wind, and stuff like the forehead, makes these sprites incredibly expressive and cool. And at last, we have Sonic 2-styled Knuckles, too!
