Hey all, apologies for the late update today - Petie mentioned last week that we've been working on a new version of the site. I've only really mentioned this in a few places off the main site itself, but you heard him right! We're working hard, which is why I'm writing this update so late, and have been making fantastic progress on what we hope is to be one of the most substantial upgrades this site has seen in over 10 years. The update applies some massive quality of life features to the site for users and guests, not just for The Spriters Resource, but all of the sites overall.

We've been working on the upgrade for a number of months, but there are still a lot of core features we still need to finish putting together - this overhaul is not just an update to existing code, but rather a complete ground up recreation of all of our systems with significant improvements. There's some surprises in store, and I honestly can't wait to get people in on early previews to get feedback on how we can improve even more. I'm happy to answer a few of the most likely questions that will crop up now, but be aware we want to keep hype going, so we're keeping some things a little hush hush:
There will be a dark theme.
We are implementing tags on all assets and games for better navigation.
Navigating the sites by console will be just one way of browsing content.
Our search system is going to be unfathomably better than the current one.
Contributors with a reasonable number of submissions will be granted access to see our pending queue, and leave comments.
We will have a built-in notifications system on the website itself, instead of conveying all information via PMs on the forum.
I will be streaming some of our processes on Twitch after the new site launches, while also engaging with the community with fun events and the like!
And So Much More!!

I apologise for the lack of shout-outs in this update, it is 1am and I'm writing this from bed! They shall return next week. There is of course some wonderful content in this update, and I hope you'll all be checking it out.

Once we can invite people to explore what the sites will have to offer, we will do so, most likely at the beginning of 2025. Until then, we love hearing your ideas for things we can improve! I've spent much of my life on this website now, and believe that Petie and I will do this site's reputation justice. I wouldn't ever wish to make changes I didn't believe were for the overwhelming betterment of our user experience, and I eagerly await being able to unveil more.
Sheets in this update: 1,105 (Show Sheets)

Not to be a real tease, but I think those aren't even close to the impact that other new features are going to bring... But I will say no more. Once we get people to start testing, I imagine it won't take long for more to come to light.

I'm sold on the implementation of a dark theme for this site, as well as an improved search system for finding sheets.

In this day and age those were perhaps the biggest changes I wanted to see across the Resources.

I've been so used to the current name that maybe doing the opposite and changing the other sites' names would do the trick (The Modelers Resource, The Texturers Resource, The Sounders Resource) although those would probably sound a little weird. I'm on board with "The Modelers Resource" though

The name isn't changing, though I do understand your point.

Should the spriters resource be the sprites resource?

I mean please don't change it, but it does fit in line with other VG resource names

The attachments on the forum won't be deleted, they will still be accessible. Users can communicate directly with one another through the sites with the new user management system, or its comments system. There will also be a wiki for discussion of specific details that may want a public reference. Otherwise, we have a Discord server that hasn't been linked to on the site in a visible fashion in a long time - the new layout will provide more avenues to follow the site and community.

with the forum going read only, how will users communicate?

If the forums go read-only, then what would happen to the attachments of the forums? I don't want the attachments to be lost.

No. Why would there be? A year+ of development time and massive improvements due to a complete rewrite of the site means it would make absolutely no sense to leave the old version available. There will be some accommodations for users who prefer the old version but I don't want to give away exactly what that entails just yet.

Will there be an option to switch back to the old site?

Why pirate gifs; should be mozart gifs

Imagine on April fools there existed a The Musics Resource, when going to the page it would look like a geocitie with text "Got bamboozled, matey!" and with pirate gifs everywhere

@Magma Yes, though it will be left online in a read-only state so nothing will be lost.
@inflames We haven’t decided on a definitive number yet but likely somewhere around 50 approved submissions for that individual site.

As for Santa, he should be visible on most screens but will be cut off on smaller screens and, along with the tree, is hidden entirely once you get down to tablet sizes.

Santa's there on mine, he's shoving the side of the screen and making rows of eight be rows of seven.

What exactly do you mean by, "reasonable number of submissions"?

Also, Santa seems to be cut off on the right side of the screen.

I can't wait to see some updates!! Your site has been useful since I first seen this site in 2007 and I cannot wait to see more promising updates with these type you mentioned, and thank for all of staffs and contributors worked hard with site and sprite rippings.

There will not be a way to edit a pending revision as building a system to edit pending edits just always felt silly to me. You will, however, be able to view and cancel your own pending revisions so you will not need to wait for them to be reviewed or request staff to reject them in order to fix a mistake.

No kidding, I keep having to do back-to-back revisions because I keep missing tiny palette details.

please tell me there'll be a way of viewing and editing revisions like how you can view and edit pending submissions. it would genuinely be so helpful
